Louie Had A Shorter Season 5 Because Louis CK Got High

The fifth season of Louie ended last night after an abbreviated eight-episode season. Louis CK revealed at an Emmy consideration panel that the primary reason he agreed to make a shorter season: he was really high.
Hitflix details the story that originally, Louis planned to delay Season 5 even further than the one-year gap he took, so he could film in the fall. The brutal New York winters had been wearing on him during filming. After Louis informed FX of his decision, the night before FX chief John Landgraf was going to announce the delay, Louis smoked a lot of weed. He suddenly felt newly inspired, writing pages upon pages of material for the season. Excited, he called Landgraf to ask if he could switch back and film on the original schedule. Landgraf, frustrated with the waffling, told Louis that they had already transferred much of the budget to other FX shows, so the most they could fund on that schedule was a shortened season. Louis agreed, then woke up to read the pages he had written the previous night and sadly discovered they were all nonsense. Ultimately, he did not use a single story from his high, inspired night of writing.
He’ll still get nominated for Emmys, though, so things should still work out for lucky Louie.
