Judd Apatow Meets President, Talks About Kimmel

Judd Apatow talked with Jimmy Kimmel about his new book, his new movie, and his new tour on Kimmel last night.

Apatow started doing interviews with celebrities when he was a teenager.  He worked for his high school radio station, and would talk his way into interviews with super stars by calling up publicists and leaving out the part about being in high school.  He’s continued to do these interviews throughout his career and they’re all a new book he has coming out called “Sick in the Head.” In the book, he talks with people like Mel Brooks, Jerry Seinfeld, Jon Stewart, Roseanne Barr, Harold Ramis, Louis C.K., Chris Rock, and Lena Dunham.

He also talked briefly about his movie– Trainwreck– which we’re very excited to see. It’s coming out on July 17.  He said it’s his first movie that he’s directing but didn’t write and he really enjoyed it because it gave him the chance to look objectively at the material and decide what was funny and what didn’t work.  He’s going on on a comedy tour with the starts of Trainwreck, and all of the money is going to charity.

But the best story Judd shared on Kimmel last night was about how him and his wife Lesley got to meet the President, and used their moment with Obama to get him to “perform” for them.  What they really wanted was a photo that looked like they were all old friends, and laughing.  It started with Apatow using his ‘one question’ you get to ask Obama about his famous “mean tweets” appearance on Kimmel. Here’s the clip.
