Louis C.K. To Write, Direct And Star In “I’m A Cop”

According to an exclusive story obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Louis C.K. is headed back to the movies where he’ll write, direct and star in the indie comedy, “I’m a Cop”. The comedy is described as the story of “a depressed middle-aged man who is a volunteer police officer living in the shadow of his mother, a highly decorated retired officer. When she dies, her continued influence forces him to become a real police officer, which is something he never wanted to be.”
Louis talked to the Hollywood Reporter about the difference between directing for television and the movies. He said, “I don’t feel like I need anyone to tell me anything with a TV show because I know exactly what I’m doing, but I’d be arrogant to think that I can take someone’s $8 million and just turn in a movie. Movies are different. There’s a permanency to them.”
Louis directs several episodes of his FX series, “Louie” and his own comedy specials, but this will be his first feature trip back to the director’s chair since “Pootie Tang” in 2001 starring Chris Rock. He talked about that experience, saying, “I was dealing with people every day whose pressures I didn’t understand, and I wasn’t very nice about how I said no to them. I put myself in a position I didn’t have to be in. A lot of what makes this kind of stuff work is empathy.”
“I’m a Cop” is being produced by Scott Rudin, who recently produced Chris Rock’s latest comedy, “Top Five”.
