Chris Rock On Why Blacks Have Abandoned Baseball

HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel invited Chris Rock to be a guest commentator on a topic close to him, baseball. According to Chris, being black and a baseball fan makes him “an endangered species”.
Chris explained why in his opinion that the national past-time is no longer enjoyed by or played by African-Americans. First, he threw out some astounding stats on the subject. When he was a kid and his beloved Mets won the World Series in 1986, 20% of MLB players were black. Now that number is down to 8%. Chris pointed out that last year’s World Series was won by the San Francisco Giants, a team with no black players. On their way to the Series, the Giants beat another team with no black players, the St. Louis Cardinals, whose fans were compared to the Ferguson, Missouri police force.
The reason the baseball is losing black fans? Chris Rock says it’s an old fashioned game played in fake antique stadiums that’s stuck in the past and played way too slow. It’s trying so hard to act like it’s the same game as 100 years ago, when there were only white players. Chris warns MLB if you lose Black America, you lose Young America. And if you don’t believe him, ask Mitt Romney.
