Tim Allen’s Kept a Memento From His First Stand Up Gig
Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live Tim Allen talked about how much stand up still means to him despite having a huge film and television career. “I’m a libertarian anarchist at heart” he said, “and when you work for studios there’s a boss.” He loves doing stand up because its your own thing- no boss- and its where he got his start. Allen’s first stand up performance was in March 1979, in a club called The Comedy Castle in Detroit Michigan. He said he still can’t figure out how nobody noticed this young guy with a knife prying off a tile.
It meant so much to him, that he stole a tile from the club, and that tile is framed and hanging in his house to this day. He showed a photo of the tile, which says “I did it! 3/23/79″ from the Comedy Castle in Detroit Michigan.”
It’s no matchbook.
