Halal in the family stars creator Aasif Mandvi as Aasif Habib Qu’osby, along with Sakina Jaffrey and fellow Daily Show alum Samantha Bee, Jordan Klepper. The series satirizes classic American sitcoms while challenging stereotypes and misinformation about Muslims.
As the theme song says, We’re just an ordinary family, living in your town (but don’t worry!)….we like monster trucks and football, even though we’re brown (we hate curry!) So welcome to our clan, we promise their’s no plan….to change the way you live or how you pray. Cause we’re just here to obey! Your various laws and local ordinances.
The series is smart, really smart, and hilarious. Watch all four episodes to find out what problems the Qu’osby family–Aasif, Fatima, Whitney and Bobby– endures and how they solve their “ordinary” problems.
In episode one, Spies Like Us, Aasif gets suspicious about a white Muslim neighbor named Waleed who he thinks might be an FBI plant.
Episode two jumps the gun straight to an early Halloween special, A Very Spooq’y Halloween. In this episode, we meet The Smiths, the reigning Halloween decorating champs. Aasif and his family scheme to outdo the Smiths and claim that prize– $100 gift certificate to the Cheesecake Factory. But will Aasif’s haunted terrorist training camp theme win over the neighborhood or just stir up trouble?
In episode three, B’ully, Aasif’s daughter deals with bullying and racism, and dad teaches everyone a lesson in racism. Everyone can learn something from Aasif’s racist drawings.
Episode four, The Amazing Race focuses on Bobby’s attempt to run for class president, even though he’s Muslim. Enter branding expert- Wendy (played by Samantha Bee) who comes to help de-muslim Bobby and cousin Tariq (Questlove) who wants to keep Bobby’s real.
