John Oliver Sits Down With Edward Snowden To Talk Dick Pic Security

John Oliver pulled off an interview get on “Last Week Tonight” by traveling to Russia to talk to NSA whistle blower Edward Snowden. The HBO host and comedian who does more journalistic work that most people who call themselves journalists asked Snowden about missing the United States (there’s one he doesn’t miss), his responsibility for the leaked information and how to get Americans to care about surveillance issues.
The interview was done in Moscow across from the old KGB Building which had John Oliver a slight bit paranoid. He explained to Snowden who he called a “hero and/or traitor” that despite everything the computer analyst risked to leak top secret NSA documents about U.S. spying practices, Americans don’t “give a shit” about surveillance on foreign countries. John Oliver didn’t do Edward Snowden’s self-esteem any favors either when he showed him a video montage of people on the street not knowing who Edward Snowden is or exactly what he did to become famous.
Every time Snowden would try to go into a complicated explanation of how important these issues are to American citizens, Oliver would remind him that he was talking like the company IT guy that bores everyone into not hearing a word he says. The “Last Week Tonight” host explained how to get Americans to pay attention to what’s at stake here. And that’s by talking about dick pics.
The NSA, through its various programs, can gain access to nude photos anyone has sent online or by their phone. Oliver asked Snowden about this and he went through the frightening process of how the government can gain access to photos of “your junk” and then how those pics are stored in a federal database. It was explained in the simplest way possible. The United States government is full of “dick sheriffs”.
John Oliver felt his 10 hour flight to Russia and interview were worth it. Until Edward Snowden informed that he’s now on the secret Russian government list for having associated with him.
“Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” airs Sundays at 11pm et on HBO.
