Broken Lizard Needs Help For “Super Troopers 2”

Broken Lizard is finally ready to make a sequel to their 2001 comedy cult favorite “Super Troopers”. Fox Searchlight is ready to make it too. There’s only one catch. The studio will shoot and release the movie, but only if Broken Lizard covers all of the costs. That’s going to come up around $2 million. Broken Lizard otherwise known as Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske have started an IndieGoGo campaign to make the sequel.
Jay Chandrasekhar told the Hollywood Reporter, “Since we refused to write a sequel where the highway cops have morphed into superhero vampires, Fox Searchlight proposed the following deal: They’ll release the film, but we have to raise all of the money. So we’ve turned to Indiegogo and our fans to prove that it’s finally time for Super Troopers to get made.”
“Super Troopers” focused on a group of state troopers in Vermont who enjoyed terrorizing each other as much as they did the motorists they pull over. They end dealing with some real crime involving murder, drug smuggling and even worse, budget cuts. Trooper Ramathorn, Trooper Foster, Trooper Womack, Trooper Roto (Rabbit), Trooper Farva and Captain O’Hagen will all be back in uniform if the film gets the funding to move forward. Although, Trooper Rod Farva’s appearance in the sequel is also dependent on the crowdsourcing effort.
Some of the perks of contribution to the “Super Troopers 2” IndieGoGo campaign include t-shirts, movie passes and fake mustaches. But here’s the list of some of the bigger perks up for grabs.
A $4,000 contribution earns you, among other prizes, naming rights in the film. This means you can give a character or a town in the movie, a name of your choosing. It’s promised to show up in the final cut at least once.
For $15,000, you and 6 of your friends take in a ballgame with Broken Lizard. After contributing, you’ll go to an LA Angeles game with the guys and watch from a luxury box at the stadium and enjoy food and beer on them.
$25,000 gets you “The Best Men” perk. Perfect for the future groom with no friends. Broken Lizard will be your groomsmen at your wedding. They can also fill in as bridesmaids for the unpopular woman getting married.
The biggest possible perk is the $35,000 Patrol Car option. For this healthy contribution, you get to keep the patrol car from the movie. It’s one that may or may not be in a car chase scene.
To show how fast money is coming and how quickly the perks are being bought up, the $10,000 “Be An Actor” perk is already sold out. It got you a speaking role in the movie. So, move fast to get in on the other great contribution perks.
Broken Lizard admits that if this effort doesn’t work the chances of a “Super Trooper” sequel happening at all are pretty slim. Also Deadline reported that TBS has passed on the Broken Lizard pilot “Quality Time” which was a semi-autobiographical look at the guys raising kids. So, they could really use this sequel coming through. You can be part of the shenanigans by going to IndieGoGo.com
