Russell Brand Is A No Show At His SXSW Movie Premiere

The new documentary about Russell Brand, “BRAND: A Second Coming”, debuted at SXSW on Friday night, but the British comedian bailed on the premiere. Russell was scheduled to be there in Austin for the screening, but decided to cancel the day before.
The film’s director Ondi Timoner told the New York Daily News, “It is just difficult for Russell because it’s a very personal film and he is vulnerable in it. Reliving his life on screen is just not a pleasant experience for someone who has lived such a tumultuous life, and is now in a very different place, and so actively engaged in the present tense.”
Russell Brand wrote about not attending the premiere on his blog, “You’d think a narcissist would like nothing more than talking about themselves and their ‘rags to riches,’ ‘hard luck’ story, but actually, it felt like, to me, my life was hard enough the first time round and going through it again was painful and sad.”
“BRAND: A Second Coming” focuses on Russell’s journey from being a drug abuser to a global activist. The doc follows him from his darkest places to his search for peace in his life and with his addictions by studying the great spiritual leaders through history. It’s an incredibly honest look at how Russell Brand survived and became the Russell Brand of today.
