In a follow-up to the comedy mini-series, “The Spoils of Babylon”, IFC is going into production with “The Spoils Before Dying”. This is the latest fictional work by a fictional author being turned into a fictional 70s style television mini-series.

Michael Kenneth Williams (12 Years a Slave, The Wire, Boardwalk Empire), has been cast as the lead in new 6 part mini-series based on the book by author Eric Jonrosh. Will Ferrell is also returning to play Jonrosh, the drunk writer whose literary works are adapted for TV and are introduces and closes each episode of the series.

In “The Spoils Before Dying”, Williams plays down-and-out piano player Rock Banyon who is now the target in a police investigation. In the comedy murder mystery series, Banyon must prove his innocence after his lover who happens to be the lead singer of the band he performs with, is found murdered along with another man. “The Spoils Before Dying” promises plenty of sex, intrigue and jazz music.

IFC President Jennifer Caserta talked about casting Michael Kenneth Williams. She said, “We’ve been spoiled by the talent we’ve been able to attract to this franchise. We know Michael will bring the same swagger of his previous larger-than-life roles to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore a dangerous world that was too hot for television.”

IFC’s “The Spoils Before Dying” is in production now in Los Angeles.
