SNL 40: Steve Martin And Friends Monologue

Multiple time SNL host Steve Martin was asked to do the opening monologue for the 40th anniversary special. It wasn’t as much a monologue as it was a debate on what type of performer makes the very best Saturday Night Live host.

Each genre of host was well represented. Steve Martin represented comedians who have hosted. For actors, it was Tom Hanks. Alec Baldwin was there for the performers that can do drama and comedy. Melissa McCarthy represented the group of hosts who aren’t “men in their 80s”. Chris Rock spoke for former cast members returning to host. Others included Peyton Manning (the pro athlete hosts), Miley Cyrus (the musician hosts), and Paul McCartney and Paul Simon (hosts named Paul).

It just showed that if you combine them all you get a great anniversary monologue.
