Brian Williams Cancels Letterman Appearance
There won’t be any returning to the scene of the crime for Brian Williams. The NBC Nightly News anchorman has cancelled his appearance on the Late Show scheduled for this Thursday. The appearance was booked before Brian Williams’ apology and revelation that he lied about being shot down over Iraq in a military helicopter in 2003. Brian Williams had told the story to David Letterman back in 2013 during an interview.
There was some speculation that Williams would keep the date with Letterman to use it as a friendly environment to clear the air about getting caught in a lie and answer any more possible questions about it. Brian Williams has appeared on Letterman’s show 21 times. According to CNN, as of earlier Sunday, a Late Show spokesperson said the appearance was still on. That changed as the day went on and now CNN says the interview is off altogether.
On Saturday, NBC announced that Brian Williams would be off the air “for the next several days” because of the scandal. Williams voluntarily put himself on hiatus saying he was now too much in the news to report it.
