Alan Menken, the mastermind behind the music of some of Disney’s biggest animated hits, is working on a musical version of the Robin Williams movie, “Mrs. Doubtfire”. According to Entertainment Weekly, Menken is working on composing the music and Harvey Fierstein is writing the show. Menken worked with Robin Williams on “Aladdin” and Harvey Fierstein appeared in the original movie “Mrs. Doubtfire” as Uncle Frank. Not to mention that Harvey has also done drag on Broadway before in “Hairspray”.

Menken has won Oscars for his scores and songs in “The Little Mermaid”, “Pocahontas”, “Aladdin” and “Beauty and the Beast”. He’s adapted Disney cartoons into Broadway musicals and won a Tony for “Newsies”. Talking about the progress on “Mrs. Doubtfire: The Musical”, Menken said, “It’s going very well, it’s in its early stages, and that’s probably all I can say.” He added, “We’re really enjoying working on it.”

There were reports of a possible film sequel to “Mrs. Doubtfire” going into production before Robin Williams’ death last August.
