Saturday Night Live went back to 1971 for a sketch with host Kevin Hart as the Godfather of Soul. The sketch featured James Brown’s patented call and response gimmick with his band. When you ask any group to shout out their collective answer there’s sure to be some dissension in the ranks. Even when the question is “Should we get more funky!?”
Running a funk and soul band by committee isn’t always the best way to do business. Some members are going to want to get more funky, others will be fine with status quo of funk. Relive James Brown at the Apollo Theater for a performance that’s more of an unscientific poll.
