U.S. Restores Full Diplomatic Relations With Cuba
President Obama announced that the United States and Cuba would go back to full relations and end the cold war attitude between the countries. As part of the agreement negotiated in part by Pope Francis, the United States will have an embassy in Havana for the first time in over 50 years. President Obama said, “We will end an outdated approach that for decades has failed to advance our interests, and instead we will begin to normalize relations between our two countries.” The deal, he added, will “begin a new chapter among the nations of the Americas” and move beyond a “rigid policy that is rooted in events that took place before most of us were born.”
