Margaret Cho wants to be more like Robin Williams, by helping the homeless. And it’s working. So far she’s raised $13,000, and you can help reach her $20,000 goal.

For the past two weeks, Cho has been literally pounding the pavement, doing street performances in the San Francisco area for donations, food, clothing or anything else that can be donated to local shelters. She’s also been working social media hard to support the campaign with the #BeRobin.  No, not Batman’s Robin.  Cho selected the hashtag to honor of Robin Williams and his work throughout his life with Comic Relief.

She announced the project on her Facebook page on November 15 inviting “any of you musician/comic/artist types to come down and help me feed and entertain people.”  If you missed the chance to participate, there will be more  appearances announced on Twitter and Facebook, so people can join her and also donate. Margaret also announced that she will have “some secret amazing legit superstars” joining her on occasion. So far, musicians that have performed on the streets with Margaret include Bob Mould, former frontman of Hüsker Dü and Sugar and singer-songwriter Roger Rocha, former guitarist for 4 Non Blondes.  She also posted on twitter that she will begin performing again on December 9th at noon, and asks that people continue donating, supporting and spreading the word until then.

If you can’t make it out to San Franscisco to help in person, you can still contribute via a GoFundMe page that Cho has set up to raise additional funds. Currently she’s raised over $13,000 of a $20,000 goal on the page.  #BeRobin and help Margaret Cho make a difference this holiday season.

Here, Margaret Cho talks about why she’s doing this in honor of Robin Williams and encourages people to give.
