Billy Crystal’s Emmy Tribute To Robin Williams

At Monday night’s Emmy Awards, Billy Crystal remembered his friend Robin Williams.
It was by far the most somber part of the Emmys ceremony. Crystal’s tribute came at the end of the In Memoriam segment which was a montage including James Avery, Maya Angelou, Lauren Bacall, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Casey Kasem, Don Pardo, Harold Ramis, Mickey Rooney, Elaine Stritch, Shirley Temple and others. That was highlighted by Sara Bareilles singing the classic Charlie Chaplin tune “Smile”.
At the end of the segment, Robin’s photo came up on the big screen and Crystal took the stage. He talked about Robin’s talent and his friendship and about how Robin would be at many of Billy Crystal’s family functions and entertain the older relatives by practically becoming one. Crystal also told the story of Robin Williams improvising in the booth at a Mets game and then he threw it to a montage of Robin’s televised comedy specials and late night talk show appearances including his first time on the Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.
