“Bridesmaids” and “The Heat” director Paul Feig is in talks with Sony to completely reboot the “Ghostbusters” franchise.

According to Variety, the film would not be a sequel to the original “Ghostbusters” films, but a complete restart with an all female cast. The script would be a brand new original piece. Right now, Fieg is currently working with Melissa McCarthy again on their lastest movie “Spy” which is set to be released Memorial Day weekend next year.

A new “Ghostbusters 3” movie was supposedly in the works with director Ivan Reitman who directed the first two films in the franchise. However, he announced he was leaving the project last March.

Sony isn’t commenting on any talks with Feig about redoing the film.
