The Lost Kimmel Viral Video Set Up Fails

Jimmy Kimmel has taken pranks to a whole new level by staging videos and then revealing himself to be the brains behind them once they go viral. Staging a twerking fail and a wolf roaming the halls at the Sochi olympics got the show national attention (and millions of hits on the videos). But how many videos did Kimmel stage that didn’t take off? He’s not talking about those– there is no big reveal. We went deep into the internet to find the Kimmel “set-ups” that nobody wants to take credit for.
1. How to Sexy Breakfast
This hispanic gentleman covering himself in various breakfast foods didn’t take off in the way Kimmel had hoped. The stunt was pulled off by hiring the makeup team from ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ to make Kimmel look hispanic and also required him to take six months of acting lessons in order to get the voice and mannerisms down. Overall, the video cost over $500,000 and landed Kimmel in outpatient therapy due to it’s failure.
2. How to Eat Corn on the Cob in 10 Seconds
A video of a young man speed-eating corn on the cob off of a rotating drill may seem like a simple video but it wasn’t. A nationwide casting call of over 50,000 boys was launched in order to find the right person for the video using the fake film title ‘Children of the Corn Part 10’ as a front for the project. The winner was Scotty Calhoun, a Nebraska native whose parents had died in a corn-related explosion. The video failed to take off and Scotty was never heard from again.
3. Fat Man Gets Run Over by Crowd
Kimmel and his crew went all out in creating this video of a fat man being trampled in olden timey days. The video was painstakingly shot over 200 times in order to make it look real as possible resulting in the death of it’s star, Gil Nutterson. The video never went viral, much to the relief of Kimmel, who probably shouldn’t have released it in the first place.
4. Missed High Five
Kimmel had the idea to have two people badly miss a high-five at the Olympics way back in 2006 during the winter games in Turin, Italy. Kimmel had two of his writers become British citizens and train to become bobsledders for eight years in order to achieve this video. The video didn’t take off and the bobsledders were forced to stay in England and abandon their American families to ensure the their secret was never revealed.
5. Boy in a Hammock
We’re not sure why Kimmel thought this video would go viral. A boy sitting in a hammock while eating a snack may be the most boring thing you can put on video. But if you take a closer look the video becomes suddenly interesting. The boy in the video is actually not a boy at all, but a ghost. The staff of Kimmel was able to conjure up the afterlife and summon a ghost boy to sit on a hammock while they filmed it. Why hey decided to just post the ghost boy video instead of just revealing it on his show is anybody’s guess
