Don’t be fooled by his sweet demeanor and seemingly easy going personality. BJ Novak might want you to think he’s always just a regular guy but he’s got a lot going on. This week he was Ron Bennington’s latest guest on “Unmasked” in front of live studio audience, and we got a glimpse of BJ Novak beyond any similarities he bears to “Ryan Howard” his character from the hit tv show “The Office.”
He talked with Bennington about “the odd philosophical situation of being around celebrity and feeling more special but knowing you’re not more special” and shared some stories about being a kid who didn’t stand out as much as some others, at least not when it came to coolness:
“I was a kid who really wished he was a cool kid, who would try anything to be a cool kid…I wasn’t an outcast but I wasn’t quite a cool kid. I wrote funny pieces for the school newspaper. I sort of became the funny kid that the cool kids would accept for that reason sometimes.” He summed up his childhood with this, “People ask if you sat in the front of the bus or the back of the bus. I sat in the middle of the bus like most kids.”
We find it hard to believe he was ever a middle of the bus kid, but if he was, he definitely isn’t now. And for a kid who thought he wasn’t cool, he’s got some great stories to tell.
