Who is Hosting SNL Tonight?
Is SNL live tonight? You bet it is. There are only a few episodes left this season, so you don’t want to miss a single one. Tonight, making his Saturday Night Live hosting debut is movie star Chris Pine. Pine is best known as Captain Kirk in the Star Trek movie reboot series and you’ve also seen him in The Princess Diaries 2, Bottle Shock, Into the Woods, Z for Zachariah, and most recently, the excellent Hell or High Water. But all of that will be forgotten this summer when he stars in the new Wonder Woman movie.
This is Pine’s first time appearing on SNL so we don’t know what we’re going to get, but something in the super hero genre is likely. We haven’t seen a live episode since April 15th when host Jimmy Fallon scored season high ratings.
Pine will be the second person to host a “live nationwide” episode of SNL. On April 15, SNL aired live coast-to-coast for the first time in its 42 season history.
LCD Soundsystem will be tonight’s musical guest.
Saturday Night Live will return live again next week with Melissa McCarthy returning for her (for real) fifth time making her a bona fide member of the Five-Timers Club.
The promos are really great, particularly one with Kate McKinnon having fun with wardrobe, makeup, and special effects around the SNL studios. In a second promo, Kenan Thompson joins Pine and LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy where some doubt is cast on whether Chris really does have the hosting gig.
