At Sunday’s “A Night For Richard” benefit to complete funding for a statue of Richard Pryor in his hometown of Peoria, Illinois, it was announced that the goal had been reached.

The event organized and hosted by George Lopez featured half hour sets by comics influenced by the legendary comedian, including Charlie Murphy, Cedric the Entertainer, D.L. Hughley, Eddie Griffin, Mike Epps and Lopez himself. PJStar.com reported that Lopez announced the good news from the stage. He said, “With your help tonight, we have enough to finish Richard Pryor’s statue. You’re all invited to the unveiling. It’s in April.”

Lopez added that once the statue is unveiled to the public, he wants to spread his grandmother’s ashes around it because she never approved of him listening to Richard Pryor’s albums.

Congratulations to everyone who participated and helped to make this happen.
