Philly bands unite for cancer benefit Saturday Nov 8;

If you were in Philadelphia in the 80s, and hung around the many clubs on South Street, then you probably saw Heidi and the Wolf. They were an original band that were part punk, part rock, part funk and all heart who played regularly at Grendel’s Lair, the Ripley, J.C. Dobbs, Bigelow’s, Khyber Pass, Taker’s Café, Philly Cookbook and lots of city sponsored events and block parties.

After 31 years, Heidi and the Wolf are reuniting for one show only, as part of a benefit for The Breathing Room Foundation, a local organization that gives practical, financial support to local Philadelphia families who are dealing with cancer. The Breathing Room is close to Heidi’s heart, as she was personally touched by their good work as she fought her own battle with cancer, and is now thankfully cancer-free. The event takes place Saturday night, beginning at 7:00 at The New Leaf Club in Rosemont, PA (on the main line). Heidi will be celebrating a birthday too!

Alas, it will be without Tom Lukomski and Lori Temple. Tom died from a rare blood cancer six years ago, and Lori’s whereabouts are unknown. However, David Isaacson (drums) Mike Dougherty (bass) Rob Lincoln (violin) and Heidi Wolfson (guitar and lead vocals) will play songs that made them such a powerful and memorable band. Art Cohen will step in on a few songs and try to recapture some of Tom’s more memorable leads. Don’t worry about the 31 years; they practiced.

Also appearing are Lessick & Lincoln & Cohen featuring original genre defying songs of Rob Lincoln. Rob and Steve’s beautiful harmonies (reminiscent of Simon and Garfunkle) will make you want to sing along. Art’s bass brings a funk and cohesion to the band that is magic. Lessick & Lincoln & Cohen will be performing new and exciting material. A classic number:

CubiZm will top off the night with current original songs. CubiZm is all at once energetic and spacey. Their material will catch you by surprise and make you think. If you have never heard CubiZm, it is time. This set will feature songs from Mating Calls, Invisible Now, and a few songs that are brand new. Here’s a memorable song from Heidi’s No More Chemo show:

The night will include all original music of three bands, a few raffles, Birthday Cake, and hopefully, many friends, old and new. Admission is $10.00.

The New Leaf Club is big and comfortable. There will be plenty of room and seating for all. Food and drinks are available via the Finriji Café on location, click here for the menu. No alcohol.
