The 10 Poker Player Types To Watch Out for Online

If you’ve been keeping an eye on poker news, you know about what Phil Ivey has been up to. The professional poker player, who has amassed millions throughout his career, recently took a London casino to court.  But while Ivey isn’t making himself any friends in land-based casinos, he boasts a very respectable online reputation, giving more and more beginners incentives to play poker at platforms like GamingClub.com. If you do fall into the beginner category however, you’ll want to know exactly who to look out for in those poker rooms. Check out these 10 different types of poker player – you could be the next Phil Ivey in no time.

Probably the most annoying of all poker players, and indeed the least profitable,  is the “Calling Station.”  the Calling Station likes to call a lot. They have a loose-passive pre-flop, and a passive play post-flop. To beat them, bet them for value – do not bluff!   Another passive player, The “Mouse” is generally tight and also likes to call or fold as opposed to betting or raising. Feel free to be a bit aggressive with the mouse – they are timid and can be bluffed easily, or have their blinds stolen.  Keep an eye out for type #3, “The Rock” – they’re such a boring player that they will hardly play any hands. When they do, they’ll employ a tight and aggressive pre-flop play, but a passive post-flop play.  Type #4 is “The Elephant.” Quite why they are called elephants is anyone’s guess, but this player is always willing to see a flop – they’re generally very loose, and will happily play any two cards.  Watch out for ‘The Maniac.”  Play the maniac at your peril – they can be a huge distraction with their wild presence. They play aggressively and like to bluff, so if you’re a mouse – watch it. Play them slow when you have a strong hand.

Akin to a mouse, “The Red Yield” is tight and passive pre-flop, but they are aggressive post-flop. You can spot a red yield because they’ll rarely raise pre-flop, even with a good hand – but you should be wary if they do.  Number 7 is “The Green Yield.”  This careless person plays too many hands and will generally overvalue his or hand – feel free to walk all over them!  A “Green Fish” is an easy opponent to beat. With a loose and passive style, they are unprofitable and weak, so make sure you bet him or her for value.  You can also look for the “Blue Fish“, another player who can be betted for value, the blue fish is loose and aggressive pre-flop, but passive post flop. He or she also probably plays too many hands.  And finally, “The Bomb.”  Avoid this one at all costs! These aggressive players lack all discipline, with a loose and aggressive style. They’re not afraid to gamble anything and and will be out to bluff you – beware.
