If You’re Black Or A Woman, Uber Is Worse For You

uberThe National Bureau of Economic Research did a study on ride sharing apps like Uber and Lyft and the user experiences for black people and women. The study was done in Seattle.

Findings on African American passengers:

Trip requests from black riders took between 16 to 28 percent longer to be accepted by both UberX and Lyft, and breaking UberX times down showed a wait time of 29 to 35 percent longer than their white counterparts.

Findings on women passengers:

According to the study, not only were women more prone to being overcharged by drivers who started the trip early or ended it after the women had already been dropped off, female riders reported instances of “chatty” drivers taking them on elongated routes.

And if you’re a white dude, the ride is free and you get a bottle of water and some candy during the trip.
