Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?
This week, reruns, more reruns and it’s Jimmy Kimmel Live without Jimmy Kimmel.
If for whatever reason, Jimmy Kimmel wasn’t already considered successful, he is now. Looking at this week in late night, there’s two different Jimmy Kimmel Live shows on the schedule and Jimmy Kimmel won’t be hosting either one of them. Having your name on talk shows without you hosting is definitely some next-level Dick Clark shit.
Starting on Tuesday night, Jimmy Kimmel Live will be part of NBA Finals week for the 14th consecutive year. It’s the annual JKL tradition where Kimmel invades prime time and hosts the 30 minute pre-game show before each game of the NBA Finals on ABC. One thing that’s different this year is that Jimmy Kimmel won’t be hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live: NBA Finals Game Night.”
Since Kimmel has already started his month long summer hiatus (one of Kimmel’s newest traditions), he’ll have a guest host filling in. This week, before each game of the NBA Finals, look for Anthony Anderson, the star of the ABC hit sitcom “Black-ish“, to fill in the for Jimmy K. That takes care of prime time.
However, Jimmy Kimmel will need a host for his late night 11:30pm et show on ABC. For that, Jimmy is going back to one of his guest hosts from past Kimmel vacations. The extremely talented Wanda Sykes will be filling in as host on JKL this week, Tuesday through Thursday. And remember, on Tuesday and Thursday of this week, Jimmy Kimmel Live may be delayed due to NBA Finals coverage and your late local news.
According to an ABC press release, other guests doing hosting duty on Jimmy Kimmel Live this summer will include “Nick Kroll, David Spade, Anthony Mackie, Sarah Silverman, Arsenio Hall, Julie Bowen, Maren Morris, Phoebe Robinson, Niall Horan and many more.”
Always be sure to check the full listings below for a list of the funny people appearing in late night all week. And if you haven’t gotten enough of Wanda Sykes’ comedy on Jimmy Kimmel Live, on Friday, Stephen Colbert has a repeat of the Late Show featuring his then-guest Wanda Sykes. Looks like Colbert is ready for a late night fight and is willing to go Wanda-to-Wanda against Jimmy Kimmel.
As for the rest of late night this week, everyone else has strategically scheduled a week of “Best Of” shows as filler. For example, this vacation week, James Corden has Josh Gad (Monday), Kal Penn (Thursday) and the great Tracy Morgan (Thursday) as guests on repeats of the Late Late Show.
Jimmy Fallon has his repeat editions of the Tonight Show set in place with guests including Graham Kay on Tuesday night. It’s a replay of Graham’s Tonight Show debut appearance. Graham Kay hails from Canada and co-hosts “The Edge Lords” podcast with Robby Slowik. It’s described as a “podcast about two non edgy comedians learning how to be edgy.” And it’s available wherever you get your podcasts.
For the remainder of the week, Jimmy Fallon has Tonight Show reruns featuring very funny guests including the host of Late Night on NBC, Seth Meyers, on Wednesday, Keegan-Michael Key on Thursday, and Kathryn Hahn on Friday night’s Tonight Show repeat.
After your Tonight Show reruns this week, you can stick around for a batch of old shows from Late Night with Seth Meyers. This week’s Late Night replays include Seth’s old SNL cast mate Will Forte on Tuesday and British favorite Graham Norton on Thursday night.
Our week of reruns wraps up this an encore presentation of Saturday Night Live from this past February starring Oscar winner Regina King. She was making her SNL hosting debut with musical guest Nathaniel Rateliff when this show originally aired. And if you don’t want to stick around for the comedy on this SNL rerun, at least watch it for Regina King’s knock-out yellow dress during her monologue. She is a vision.
Hope you had a happy 4th this year. And here’s to a happy 5th and 6th and 7th and…well, you know where this is going.
