Happy Earth Day! Here’s your chance to do something for the planet by laughing some more and making this very angry, big, blue marble a happier place. Now if you’re going to be laughing late at night this week, you’re going to have to do it with some repeats from your favorite talk show hosts. Other than Conan, the Tonight Show and the Daily Show, everyone is going on vacation this week.
Since Jimmy Kimmel had the monopoly on the “Avengers: Endgame” guests last week, everyone must be taking this week off to get ready for a long season of upcoming summer movie guests. JKL will be re-airing episodes from its “Avengers” theme shows again this week if you want a primer to get ready for the release of the film on Friday.
This week in Late Show reruns, Stephen Colbert has scheduled repeats with some very funny guests including Tony Hale (Tuesday), Henry Winkler (Wednesday), Tig Notaro (Thursday) and Zach Galifianakis (Friday). Late Night with Seth Meyers also has some very funny encore episodes rerunning this week. Seth’s repeat guests include some comedy legends like Ricky Gervais on Monday night, Amy Schumer on Wednesday and icon Steve Martin on Thursday evening.
Tuesday night, Conan sits down with Vir Das, the Indian stand up who moved on to huge comedy success in the Bollywood film scene. Vir will be talking to Conan O’Brien about his co-starring role as CIA agent Jai Dattaon on the new ABC hit action comedy-drama, “Whiskey Cavalier.” Wednesday night, Conan has stand up legend Howie Mandel as his one and only guest. Then on Thursday night, it’s former SNL cast member Jon Rudnitsky on Conan to talk about his new Hulu comedy mini-series, “Catch-22” based on the Joseph Heller novel. Jon co-stars as McWatt in the World War II set comedy which stars Christopher Abbott, Hugh Laurie, Kyle Chandler and George Clooney who also executive produces and directs the limited comedy TV event.
On Wednesday, Wyatt Cenac visits the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. He’ll be there to promote his new HBO comedy docu-series, “Wyatt Cenac’s Problem Areas“. On the series, Wyatt takes on some of the country’s biggest social issues, but he does it on the road where he heads to the heart of the problems. “Problems Areas” is produced by Wyatt Cenac and HBO’s Last Week Tonight host, John Oliver.
Leonard Outz will be on the Tonight Show on Thursday night. Besides being seen touring with his stand up act, Leonard can also be seen on NBC stealing the scene on a regular basis on “Abby’s“, the new hit NBC comedy which is like “Cheers” except outside. No, literally. “Abby’s” is a sitcom about a neighborhood bar which is shot with a live audience and completely outdoors.
Finally Friday night, Bill Maher is back with new episodes of his HBO political comedy talk series, Real Time with Bill Maher. Hmmm, wonder if anything is going on in the country that Bill would want to comment on. New Rule: With Donald Trump in charge, you really can’t take a week or two off when doing political comedy.
It’s getting late, time to rise and shine and start watching some comedy!
