Vimeo Debuts Two New Original Comedy Series at SXSW
SXSW is in full swing, and among the many exciting announcements,Vimeo has debuted their second batch of originals! One of the featured shows is “Lonely and Horny”, a looking-for-love comedy written by and starring Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld. According to Deadline, it will bow April 8.
Vimeo has has a pretty successful track record. It’s first original project “High Maintenance,” (a comedy about a pot dealer) debuted in 2014. It was such a success that it was later acquired by HBO.
In June of 2015 Vimeo made it pretty clear they wanted to be among the ranks of Netflix or Amazon in original on-demand content by partnering with its Maker Studios and announcing their plans to develop long-form projects.
The company has stayed true to their word. In addition to the launch of “Lonely and Horny”,
“Garfunkel and Oates: Trying to be Special”, a comedy special starring ” and Kate Micucci will be released in May.
“Wizard Mode”, a documentary about a hidden pinball level that an autistic player tries to master will debut this Spring. And Vimeo’s first foray into concert films: Toro y Moi: Live in Concert featuring acclaimed chillwave act Chaz Bundick aka Toro y Moi will come out in June.
