EPIX, the television network that’s made a name for itself in recent years producing stand-up specials for various comics, announced today that comedian Tom Papa has filmed his second special with the network. The special, called Tom Papa: Human Mule, was filmed on July 9th in Cleveland, Ohio at the Hanna Theatre at the Playhouse Square. Papa specifically requested to shoot the special in Cleveland, one of his favorite comedy destinations, and EPIX was happy to oblige.
“I’m really excited to do another special with EPIX,” said Papa. “They’ve been a great partner and like me so much that they’re even willing to shoot this one in Cleveland.”
Papa is a veteran comic, with 20+ years of experience under his belt. He’s filmed five comedy specials to date (three with Comedy Central and now two with EPIX), and has made dozens of appearances on the late night talk show circuit, from The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to The Late Show with David Letterman. He’s performed a one-man show at Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival, called Only Human, and has in recent years added a few acting credits to his resume, including appearances on Cinemax’s The Knick opposite Clive Owen and HBO’s Behind the Candelabra opposite Michael Douglas and Matt Damon. He’s a friend of Jerry Seinfeld’s, and opened for the comic at one of his performances in Rochester earlier this year. He also hosts a podcast, called Come to Papa.
“Tom Papa’s humor lends insight on thoughts we’ve all had, but may not have dared to express,” said Mark S. Greenberg, President & CEO of EPIX. “I am excited to hear about Papa’s latest antics and the hilarity that ensues in what will mark his second special with the network. EPIX comedy specials are one of our most popular genres, and there is no doubt that Papa’s special will contribute, once again, to the high-quality collection. ”
Tom Papa: Human Mule is set to premiere on EPIX at 8 p.m. ET/PT, 7C on Friday, December 9th.
