An original Columbia University MFA Thesis Film directed by Jonathan Dee and produced by Meg Wechter. Deeply embedded in historical context, “The Year I Grew an Inch” tells the story of a group of French Resistance fighters known as the Maquis. Set in the backdrop of Occupied France, fourteen-year-old Otto, disguised in a Nazi uniform, has to infiltrate a chateau inhabited by a German family loyal to the Fuhrer. The patriarch of the family is a high-ranking Nazi lawyer. The biggest obstacle in Otto’s mission is his rapidly growing heartfelt connection to nine-year-old Gunter, the son of the German family. Otto’s decision to pledge his allegiance to the Maquis questions his conviction of good and evil as he witnesses Gunter’s life change forever. –
