The American Dream Is Dead. RIP Dusty Rhodes (1945 – 2015)

Virgil Riley Runnels Jr., better known as The American Dream Dusty Rhodes to wrestling fans all over the world, passed away today at the age of 69. An ambulance came to his home after it was reported he had taken a fall, a day later he died from kidney failure.

Dusty is survived by his four children and wife. Two of his sons currently wrestle for the WWE, Cody Runnels and Dustin Runnels, aka Goldust.

Dusty was a living legend. He came up through the old wrestling territories like NWA and Jim Crockett Promotions(the forerunner to WCW) before being signed to the then WWF in the 80’s.

He eventually returned to the WWE in 2005 as a creative consultant and booker, working behind the scenes and occasionally making appearances on camera. He’ll forever be remembered as one of the greatest workers in the history of wrestling, and amazing on the mic. Below are some classic promos from Dusty.
