Taran Killam’s Directorial Debut Will Star Arnold Schwarzenegger
An SNL studded cast with Taran Killam at the helm as screenwriter and director will begin production on “Why We’re Killing Gunther” this June. The feature is not only Killam’s directorial debut and his first role starring beside wife Cobie Smulders outside of her hit show “How I Met Your Mother” but will star Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Governator is joined by SNL’s Bobby Moynihan, Paul Brittain (Hotel Transylvania 2), Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley), Randall Park (The Interview) and Ryan Gaul (Identity Thief).
The plot centers on an international band of assassins resolute on murdering Gunther (presumably Arnold), the best and most arrogant of all the hitmen (and hitwomen). The group is consistently outsmarted and humiliated by Gunther who somehow remains one step ahead of their best schemes. The awesome premise and exciting ensemble plus Schwarzenegger cast as a devious blowhard all sounds super fun.
The project will be introduced to international buyers at the upcoming Cannes film market with UTA representing North American rights to the film. Smulders and Killam are also repped by UTA as well as ROAR and Gang Tyre and Principato-Young Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham, respectively.
Schwarzenegger is meanwhile repped by CAA and Blooom Hergott. He’s stayed busy with two recently released films; the poorly reviewed “Terminator: Genisys” and an indie thriller Schwarznegger produced where he plays the father of a zombie-ified teenage daughter.
