Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg’s ‘Future Man’ Gets Series Order

According to Deadline, Hulu has finally decided to give Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s sci-fi comedy Future Man a series order. The show was announced at the beginning of this year, and the cast was slowly being brought together, but not much news had come out about the pilot in the past few months. It’s now been confirmed, however, that the show has received a 13-episode order.

Future Man stars Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games series, Red Dawn) as Josh Futterman (hope he doesn’t forget his character’s name!), a no-name janitor by day and world-class gamer by night. Futterman has no discernible skills, except for the fact that he has the top global score in the video game Cybergeddon, a game set in a dystopian future. As it turns out, Cybergeddon isn’t pure fiction; it’s essentially a training program designed to find a John Connor-type character to aid the humans of the future against an invasion. Two of those humans, Tiger and Wolf, come back in time and appeal to Futterman to help them save the human race.

Tiger and Wolf are played by Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings, Casual) and Derek Wilson (Preacher, Rectify). Those three will be joined by Ed Begley Jr. (This Is Spinal Tap, Pineapple Express) and Glenne Headly (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) as Futterman’s doting, pot-smoking parents.

Rogen and Goldberg are executive producing and directing the series; the duo have a lengthy resume as a writing/directing team across both big and small screen features, from Superbad to the AMC comic drama Preacher. The original concept for Future Man was written by Ariel Shaffir and Kyle Hunter (who are also executive producing), frequent collaborators of Rogen/Goldberg who most recently wrote the animated comedy Sausage Party. And, wouldn’t you know it, Hutcherson has a hand in producing the series as well.

Future Man is set to premiere on Hulu sometime in 2017.
