Smith finally released an apology that approaches actual remorse, promising to seek help and resigning from the Academy, although know one seems to know exactly what that means. The only thing everyone agrees on is he won’t get screeners or be able to vote. Everything else, including keeping his oscar, the ability to attend future shows, and eligibility for future Oscars seems to still be at the discretion of the Academy, and there’s nothing to say they have to institute any such penalties. Reactions seem to be positive toward Smith and his statement.
