Sarah Silverman Endorses Bernie Sanders in Facebook Video

On Monday afternoon, comedian Sarah Silverman posted a video of herself endorsing presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. The video, which comes in at just under 5 minutes, is a plainly shot, genuine plea to the American people to take the power of their votes seriously, emphasizing that candidates take elections seriously enough that they will spend billions in order to win.

It is not, as Silverman points out, a video urging people to vote: “A lot of people urge you to vote, that’s not what this video is. If you vote or not, that’s not my business, I’m not your mommy. Though, like your mommy, I have a completely full bush.”

Silverman’s aim with the video is to urge people to not only recognize the power that each of their votes has, but to also encourage people to do their research on each candidate and to consider which one truly has their best interest at heart. For example, Silverman admits that she originally threw her support behind Hillary Clinton: “Hillary had always been my choice: I’m a feminist. Democratic, woman president? Yes please! But she takes a lot of money from big corporations and banks, the very people she says she’s going to stand up to.” She says that she thought taking money from PAC’s was a necessary evil, a part of the game that couldn’t be avoided.

She thought so, she says, until she did some research on Bernie Sanders. She goes on to detail how Sanders is running his campaign completely on donations from grassroots organizations, and to explain the tenets of democratic socialism, among a few other topics she elucidates on.

One thing is for sure: Silverman is passionate about her belief that Sanders is the man for the job. At a few points throughout the video, Silverman seems to get a bit teary eyed, as if on the verge of welling up, but subtly shrugs it off as makes her point.
