Ron Funches Pitches Cartoon Series to Seeso on Conan

Ron Funches was a guest on Conan on Thursday night. He is a busy man who discussed his over 100 pound weight loss, pampering himself and the projects he’s currently involved with. Funches has a new series coming to NBC. The action – comedy, Powerless, is a sitcom taking comedy inside the DC comic book universe. Once those plugs were out of the way, Funches had more work to do. And that’s trying to get Seeso to pick up his idea for a cartoon series where the best pro wrestler is not only the champion, but he also becomes the President of the United States. As silly and fun as Ron Funches can be in interviews, he was serious when he asked Conan’s viewers to “please tweet politely @Seeso” to ask the streaming platform to put his cartoon idea into production. To help him out, here is Seeso’s correct Twitter handle, @SeesoTV.

The title of Funches’ animated series is “Squash”, from the term “squash” or “squash match” from pro wrestling meaning a jobber gets destroyed in a match against one of the top name wrestlers. It’s usually used to put a heel or bad guy over with the crowd and making him look unstoppable and unbeatable. Funches, which you can see in the clips below, describes his cartoon as “a world where wrestling is real and it controls our entire political landscape”.

The premise behind Ron Funches’ idea for an animated series where pro wrestling overlaps with the federal government now seems all that more plausible. Before being elected President, Donald J. Trump had a more respectable honor bestowed on him. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2013 along with wrestlers Mick Foley, Bob Backlund and Bruno Sammartino, among others. Some of the President’s previous involvement with the WWE included helping shave Vince McMahon’s head at Wrestlemania 23, hosting Wrestlemanias 4 and 5 at his casino in Atlantic City, and dropping cash on the audience at a Monday Night Raw event. While Trump has gotten involved in pro wrestling in the past, the McMahons have returned the favor and have now gotten involved in the U.S. Government. Linda McMahon was nominated as Administrator of the Small Business Administration by President Trump.

Until “Squash” gets released by the fine folks at Seeso, enjoy watching Ron Funches on Powerless premiering Thursday, February 2nd at 8:30pm on NBC.
