Young is a song I wrote with my friend, hit songwriter Britton Cameron, and produced by Grammy nominated and Juno Award winning Producer, Roger Ryan. It is about wishing to go back to that time when your biggest worry was getting home before the street lights turned on. For me, it’s not only about falling asleep and waking up in my childhood room, it’s also about seeing my mom just one more time. She was taken from us 7 short years ago by leukemia, and that is why I can relate so much to the Tyson family, our friend’s loss……
So, a few weeks ago, a family friend who was a 24 year military veteran named Tyson Nick was killed over seas leaving behind a wife– Stephanie– and three children– Spencer, Bailey, and Cooper. The greatest tragedy is that Cooper is still a toddler, and will never really get to know his father. I hope this song brings them comfort and it will mean as much to them as it does to me, and further that it raises enough money for the Tyson children to receive a College education.
