Public Enemy Pissed That The Oscars Used ‘Fight The Power’
The 2016 Oscars was more about race than movies and you got that idea clearer than daylight when the broadcast closed out with Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power”. First of all, it just comes off as weird when the organization being protested is pandering to people and plays a song about fighting back but Public Enemy’s own Professor Griff is annoyed with the song choice. He feels everything is going to stay the same and the Academy just used that to appease people for the day, he also said “The show can’t claim the blackness of Public Enemy’s message.” Only problem, Public Enemy does not even own the rights to the music, Universal does so the point is mute. It’s not like the song has been used pointlessly in tons of movies and commercials since it came out…
