Patton Oswalt Humanizes the Unthinkable in Conan Appearance

Monday night Patton Oswalt made his first Conan appearance since his wife passed away earlier this year. In an interview interspersed with the mundane and the life-changing, Patton Oswalt made the unthinkable human by discussing the awful 80s sitcom that is life, as a widower raising a daughter.

The comedian kept the Mother’s Day blues at bay just two weeks after his wife’s passing by staying busy traveling and visiting cousins, but an old Polish ticket-taker wasted no time at all reminding Oswalt’s young daughter that her mother had also died when she was young and “she was sad every day”. Now Oswalt’s worried every holiday he tries to get his daughter through without too much misery, will be sharted on by the Polish Lady of Doom.

He also talked about paying tribute to his wife at the Emmy Awards, saying she was the reason his comedy got better, and his sad post-Emmys Arby’s photo he tweeted out. Oswalt won an Emmy for his new special Patton Oswalt: Talking for Clapping. Oswalt said he was driving around with his brother after the awards show, and it was his brother’s idea to stop at the Arby’s to take a photo to be funny, but he got tons of worried messages on social media asking if he was okay.
