NYC Play Canceled Because They Planned On Doing Yellowface
A planned New York City revival of the Gilbert & Sullivan play, The Mikado, has been scrapped. The reason is that the play is set in Japan, but the cast was filled with all-whites. Asian groups objected to the fact that the cast was mostly Caucasian, but they would be wearing Japanese outfits. The theater apologized and canceled the play. The producers of The Lion King are also expected to apologize for using actors who aren’t really lions.
