My mom needs surgery, but no one will call her back!
When my mom was a 20 something in the 70s, she was really overweight and like many of us had alot of issues surrounding that. In desperation she had a bypass surgery back then to try and lose weight. That ended up being a huge mistake as those things were really not at all tested or proven back then, and the kind she had is now known to lead to kidney failure which she is now suffering from.
If they reverse the bypass surgery she had, it helps a lot to stabilize the patient, in the few cases that it’s been done, however its such a rare bypass surgery that most gastro doctors aren’t familiar with it, wont touch it, and wont even call her back.
So this is sort of a strange request because she doesn’t need money or any kind of kickstarter or anything, she just wants to find a qualified gastro surgeon at least willing to meet with her about reversing her bypass so that maybe she can get back some of her lost kidney function and become a candidate for kidney transplant and live into her retirement like she deserves.
I’m turning to the Ron and Fez universe, and the people of The Interrobang because i know you are all caring people, and I also know you are all smart folks who probably hang around with or ARE smart doctors. I figure if I could spread the word as much as possible, maybe someone out there would know someone who would know someone who could help her out. Not looking for charity, just looking for a chance.
Her name is Joan Grealis, and here is something she just posted on her facebook
“Dear Facebook Friends and relatives…I need your help. It has come to my attention that my end stage renal disease was caused by the ilieal-jejunal bypass I had in my twenties. Before I receive a kidney transplant or to save what function I have left, it is being strongly recommended to me that I have the bypass reversed. It has been done many times by others who had the surgery but I can’t find a gastrointestinal surgeon who will give me an appointment to discuss the surgery, let alone perform it. Do you know anyone who might be or know of someone who could help me. Please share with your FB friends and maybe I will get what I need to end the complications I am now suffering from this surgery years ago. Thank you all for any help and well wishes.”
obviously, this is not your guys concern and im not gonna be all butthurt if you cant do anything, but i figured i’d ask, the longer it goes untreated the worse it’ll get. She is currently living in the bay area of northern california, and i’m moving out there this month to be with her and my family.
