Louis C.K. Wants to Put His Top-Secret Film ‘I Love You, Daddy’ In Theaters

A few weeks ago, it was quietly revealed to the world that Louis C.K. had somehow managed to direct a movie, complete with an impressive big-name cast, entirely in secret. Once people got over the shock at how he managed to do such a thing in NYC (still not over it here), the surprise turned to a salivating desire to see the movie. While many expected C.K. to self-distribute the film which he had kept so closely guarded, the comic has told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s actually looking to get the movie in theaters.

Called I Love You, Daddy, the movie is set to make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, September 9th. The film is jam-packed with stars like Chloë Grace Moretz, Helen Hunt, Charlie Day, John Malkovich and Edie Falco, and it was shot in black and white on 35 mm film. Likely for both of those reasons, C.K. thinks the film would be best viewed at a theater, and as such, is planning to shop the film around to a pool of (definitely highly interested) distributors attending the festival.

“This is a movie I want to see projected,” C.K. told THR. “I want someone who can put this in theaters. That’s a big goal for me.”

C.K. is all but guaranteed to find his distributor, though he specifies in the interview that he’d like to work with one that thinks outside the box and is willing to market (or not market) the film creatively, similar to his own approach with marketing his comedy shows.

Always humble, C.K. acknowledged that Saturday night was likely to be a busy one for him, if things go well. “Or it won’t be,” he added. “There’s always the possibility that nobody will care about it and I’ll just have a nice dinner with my cast and go home.”

Fat chance, Louis.
