It’s an exciting week this summer in late night television. All of the hosts will be in their chairs and behind their desks and working this week with none of them on vacation. Enjoy these rare summer weeks while you can.
Checking the late night comedy highlights this week, if you’re a Tom Papa fan, (and who isn’t?), he will be making the late night rounds talking about his new hilarious book, “Your Dad Stole My Rake: And Other Family Dilemmas” which is available now in time for Father’s Day (hint, hint). On Tuesday, Tom Papa will be appearing on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and then on Thursday, expect another memorable visit with Tom on Conan.
On Tuesday, Jimmy Fallon has an interesting non-comedy guest on the Tonight Show. Growing up in this country, most kids were introduced to a quiet hero named Mr. Rogers who welcomed children into his neighborhood. One question that many kids had was, “Is there a Mrs. Rogers?”. And it turns out there is one and Joanne Rogers will be Jimmy Fallon’s guest Tuesday night to talk about the new documentary about her husband’s work, “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” which opened in select theaters this past weekend.
Wednesday, there’s plenty of comedy in late night. Be sure to check the full listings below. First on Conan, there’s comedy from Rell Battle who’s known for his stand up, creating the hilarious comedy show “Roast Battle” and as Sweatpants on the now-cancelled CBS sitcom “Superior Donuts.” Then Hari Kondabolu will be a guest on The Opposition with Jordan Klepper on Comedy Central to talk about his Netflix special “Warn Your Relatives” and his controversial documentary “The Problem with Apu,” which takes aim at “The Simpsons” for their depiction of the Kwik-E-Mart owner. We covered the entire Apu controversy here on the Interrobang.
As a bonus on Wednesday, Stephen Colbert has got you covered whether you’re a President Trump fan or not. Colbert has both the Trump White House one-week wonder Anthony “The Mooch” Scaramucci and former Presidential mistress and porn star Stormy Daniels’ lawyer Michael Avenatti on the Late Show on Wednesday.
Then on Thursday, watch for two international comedians appearing in late night. Hannah Gadsby, an Australian comedy export, will be on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Hannah’s comedy show “Nanette” will premiere as a new Netflix hour special on Tuesday, June 19th. Also on Thursday, you get the chance to meet Romesh Ranganthan whose work in comedy and television is known all over Britain and who is also a fixture at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, on the Late Late Show with James Corden.
This weekend, you’ve got Billy Eichner getting loud and political on a live Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO. Plus on Friday, there’s brand new stand up from Nikki Glaser on the Tonight Show and then on Saturday, it’s a repeat SNL with four-time host and Saturday Night Live favorite Charles Barkley.
