As we move into the month of May, also known as a “Sweeps Month,” it’s a great time for late night television. The shows will be vying for the best guests for the new run of summer movies and television finales, plus the shows for the new summer TV season. So that means the best in comedy guests as well. This week starts a great schedule of hilarious names in late night. Here’s some highlights.
Monday starts out with amazingly funny guests up and down the late night program guide. You have a choice of two of comedy’s leading ladies with Carol Burnett on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Roseanne Barr on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. You also get a choice of two of the most prominent writers in SNL‘s storied history with Robert Smigel on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and John Mulaney on Late Night with Seth Meyers. And that’s not to mention everyone’s favorite, Tracy Morgan stopping by Conan. That’s a lot of laughs considering it’s Monday.
On Wednesday, it’s worth taking an afternoon nap to stay up a little longer to catch the Late Late Show with James Corden where his guests will be Will Ferrell making his first last night appearance since the nasty car accident that sent him to the hospital a couple weeks ago, and one of the funniest stand ups that you’ll ever see on television, the incomparable Jo Koy who is currently selling out multiple-night shows in cities in the U.S. and Canada on his “Break the Mold Tour.”
Then on Thursday, it’s a night worthy of your DVR. First, Jimmy Fallon welcomes comedy legends Steve Martin and Martin Short who will appear on the Tonight Show to promote their new Netflix special, “Steve Martin and Martin Short: An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life” which premieres May 25th on the streaming giant. Then, you can catch Bill Hader on JKL where if you’re a fan of Hader when he would break character on Saturday Night Live, you’ll love him on Kimmel Live where his visits with Jimmy K always turn into giggle-fests. Plus on Thursday, Rory Scovel is a guest on Conan. Scovel, besides being a premiere stand up and comedy writer is also getting great reviews for his performance as Amy Schumer’s leading man in her latest comedy film, “I Feel Pretty.”
On Friday, return to the Tonight Show for new stand up from Josh Blue who became a household name in 2006 by winning the title of “Last Comic Standing” during Season 4 of the NBC comedy competition reality show. Then on Saturday, it’s the first of the three final episodes of SNL – Season 43 starting with Donald Glover hosting while his music alter-ego Childish Gambino serves as the musical guest. Then the final two SNLs will be hosted by Amy Schumer and then Tina Fey for the season finale.
