JFL UPDATE: Jimmy Carr Delivers a Pleasureable Lashing at the Salle Wilfred Pelltier at Just for Laughs Montreal

It’s the second night of Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal. I had walked too damn much already and it wasn’t even 4 pm. this is mostly because I am cheap and unaware of exactly where things are. My hotel is far this year I refuse to wear my pass around my next. It’s a test who’s worth paying attention to. The head on a swivel thing here gets old fast. I came here to see shows and write. This is my 5th year. I never regret trying to party more. I regret not seeing shows. So ahead of me leaving my hotel was a long walk to see Jimmy Carr at the grandest largest venue.
Salle Wilfred Pelltier it’s a very big deal.
Jimmy Carr notorious roast comic and British king of mean had no opener. This was admirable as his particular brand of tea pot scathing one liner comedy is something like a kinky lashing; you might feel like you need to be warmed up first. Yet it was as if Jimmy himself was his own opener. His audience the subs by thousands consenting to what they were about to hear.
Carr with all the poise of a prima ballerina took the stage and began his dance of cleaver polished material. Nothing was safe but everything was perfectly executed. This where the genius of Carr slowly started to reveal itself. He is an exercise in contrasts. Filthy but proper. Lowbrow and posh. And as the jokes on sex, death, politics and motherhood layered and built, a true magic Just for Laughs moment happens:
A slight man barely moving from the center of the room meant for Operas and musicals began to draw it in make it feel intimate. Maybe it was being without the crack of a massive audience that made me all the more in-tune to the focused energy. This was a show as I was experiencing it I was profoundly aware I would remember it for a long time.
Lashing done pleasure received.
Just For Laughs have done us proud. If you’re in Montreal I’d also recommend seeing Tommy Tiernan, Neal Brennan and Rachel Feinstein. pic.twitter.com/nDc26JAPPD
