Jerrod Carmichael Adds Book Deal to His List of Big Moves

Alongside a renewal for the third season of “The Carmichael Show”, the eponymous comedian will also author a memoir. The book is currently untitled and has no official release date, but has secured a large publisher through Random House.
The memoir will focus on the interactions and people that have shaped Carmichael’s life the most. A format based in observance could be a refreshing turn from the usual introspective comedian memoirs that can get mucked up in ego.
Despite the virtual death of the printed word, memoirs from comedian authors garner steady sales. In 2014, both Amy Poehlers’ “Yes Please” and Lena Dunham’s “Not that Kind of Girl” sold around 37,000 copies in their first week and Tina Fey’s “Bossypants” sold 38,000 in its first week and went on to sell a total of 2.5 million copies. Whether or not Jerrod Carmichael has the same visibility and following as these women has yet to be seen.
