‘Jerrod Carmichael: 8’ Coming to HBO in March

HBO has announced the release dates for two highly-anticipated projects: Jerrod Carmichael’s new stand-up special, Jerrod Carmichael: 8, and the second season of the Duplass brothers’ Animals.

Season two of Animals will debut on Friday, March 17th at 11 p.m. For those who missed season one, Animals is an animated show that features a wide-ranging cast of animals as they tackle daily life in New York City, which, surprisingly, is full of benign obstacles and pointless drama, just like it is for humans! The show is voiced by an ensemble cast of comics such as Duncan Trussell, Matt Walsh, Wanda Sykes, Eric Andre, Ellie Kemper, Danny McBride, Cobie Smulders, Rob Corddry, Molly Shannon, Horatio Sanz, Nick Kroll, Nathan Fielder and countless others. This simple little show usually delivers some big laughs, so be sure to check it out when it returns!

Coming on Saturday, March 11th is Jerrod Carmichael: 8. The comic’s second one-hour special, this one was recorded at New York City’s Masonic Hall. We’re especially excited to see this one in its completed form seeing as how, uh, strangely the taping went. The IBang’s Jeffrey Gurian attended the second of the two tapings for the special back in December and stated that “it was probably the strangest, most unusual performance I’ve ever seen, especially for something being taped for TV.” Gurian and a few others in attendance reported that Carmichael’s performance was slow and awkward, and often felt disjointed. Carmichael is know for his often-subdued delivery and quiet speaking voice at times, so it’s possible that some people just weren’t “getting it;” His NBC series, The Carmichael Show has been a big hit and we’ve seen Carmichael kill on stage. Either way, we can’t wait to see what this budding comic has in store for us come March.
