Inaugural All-Electric Race Ends Spectacularly

Formula E is an attempt by the FIA to promote environmentally-friendly motorsports. The all-electric single-seater series raced around Bejing’s Olympic Park Saturday for the first-ever “ePrix.” Besides the fact it sounded like twenty-four people vacuuming, the race saw power boosts awarded to drivers based on fan votes and a pit stop where they changed the entire car (literally). But many will remember the ending, when Nick Heidfeld pulled out to pass leader Nicholas Prost on the final lap. Prost cut left to block and hit Heidfeld, breaking his suspension and sending Heidfeld sliding across a curb (or kerb, depending on your location), which launched him into the fence.
Lucas di Grassi wound up winning the race.
