How Ronald McDonald House Helped Us to Help Our Little Girl

This was submitted to us on the UNFILTERED section of our site, but we loved it so much we wanted to also post it on the IB Wire.  Thank you Bryan for sharing.

First off thank you for taking the time to read my story. 3 weeks ago my first child was born. A beautiful little girl named Lana. She was with a heart condition known as HLHS in short she has half a heart. Children can live with this syndrome but they have to go through a series of operations or a full transplant. Our little girl went in to her first operation at 4 days old. It did not go so well due to other complications. So we find ourselves on a waiting list for a heart. My girl and I struggle every night we basically are wishing for a child to die for ours to live. The saving grace to this hell we are going thru is the people we’ve met. Lana is at the Milwaukee Children’s hospital. A place that saints and angels come to every day and try to heal sick kids. From the nurses to the surgeons the janitors to the security guards everyone is nice. A simple smile can brighten some of these shitty days we have here.

The second savior to us is the Ronald McDonald House. This place has restored my faith in mankind. Its ran by volunteers and funded by donations. Complete strangers cook us dinner every night. My first night eating a meal there i was so overcome with emotion I teared up eating a hot dog.

The whole point of me writing this and sharing my story is just to ask people to support great orginizations like your local children’s hospital and Ronald McDonald houses. As little as saving your pop tops helps out tremendously. These places are a huge help to families like ours in a time when hope is almost lost.

Lastly I’d like to thank Ron and Fez and The Interrobang for having a place for me to post this. We hope for good news in the future and will share it if anyone cares.

Sincerely Bryan

UPDATE FROM BRYAN (May 30, 2013):

The kind words and thoughts from around the country fill our hearts with joy!

Just a quick update.  Lana is 4 weeks today and we were informed her all around health is not good enough for transplant. So if she was offered a heart they would turn it down. They don’t want to take a heart away from a child that would have better chances of survival and risk ours not making it through the operation, in essence wasting a good donor organ. Its hard to say this but we are completely cool with that. Being here opens your eyes to not only your sick kid but all of them. And if our neighbors in the room next to us little girl gets her heart first and survives we will call it a win. Lana continues to fight and we appreciate all the support.  Good vibes and thoughts surround us and for that we are grateful! Peace,  Bryan
