LIVE STAND UP COMEDY THURSDAY 4/20

Show: JB Smoove

Venue: Carolines on Broadway
Location:
1626 Broadway NYC

Time:  7:30pm
Description of Show and Lineup:

Born in Plymouth, North Carolina and raised in Mount Vernon, NY, Smoove is a gifted writer, comedian and actor, who continues to entertain audiences all over the world with his unique brand of comedic funk.  His breakout role on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” as Leon has firmly planted him as one of the best comedic actors today.  He began his career in 1999, when he moved to Los Angeles and landed a recurring role on MTV’s “The Lyricist Lounge Show,” as well as featured guest spots on “The Chris Rock Show” and “Premium Blend.”   This led to his first big feature film, where he narrated and starred in the cult classic “Pootie Tang,” reuniting with Rock. Smoove subsequently followed this up with a co-starring role opposite Adam Sandler in “Mr. Deeds. After a season as a cast member on the sketch comedy program “Cedric the Entertainer Presents,” Smoove moved back to New York City where he landed a writing position on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.”  He later was a recipient of the 2007 Writers Guild award for “Best Comedy/Variety Series” for his work on the show. In the standup and acting worlds, Smoove has been featured on “Tough Crowd,” “Jamie Foxx Presents: Laffapalooza,” “Saturday Night Live” sketches and recurring spots on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “Everybody Hates Chris,”“’Til Death,”  “Bent,” and “The Real Husbands of Hollywood.”  Recently, he was seen as host of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” the Comedy Central standup series, “Russell Simmons Presents: The Ruckus,” and shot his own one-hour stand-up special, “JB Smoove: That’s How I Dooz It” for Comedy Central. Smoove also hosted the 2012 CLIO Awards, which celebrates the world’s best commercials on NBC.  He co-starred in the CBS comedy “The Millers” and is launching season three of his show “Four Courses with JB Smoove” on the MSG Network.

Show: Week at the Creek: Ryan Schutt

Venue: The Creek and The Cave
Location:
10-93 Jackson Avenue LIC

Time: 7pm
Description of Show and Lineup:

One Artist.  7pm.  The Creek and The Cave is proud to present a Week at The Creek.  A hand picked, organically grown free range comedian will cook up an hour before your very eyes.

This week’s artist: Ryan Schutt

When Ryan gets the opportunity to talk at a group of strangers with a microphone, he relates to them by drawing from his pathetically shallow reservoir of life experience. Staying comfortably within the bounds of his limited knowledge and interests, his material focuses on things that bother him, getting bothered by things, and the relationship between him and things that are bothersome. It goes without saying that it is clearly everything else that has a problem, not him.

Ryan has performed at a wide range of international comedy festivals, including SF Sketchfest, NXNE, Limestone, Bentzen Ball, Laugh Your Asheville Off, Cape Fear, and the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival. He has opened for comics like Dave Attell, Pete Holmes, Wyatt Cenac, Dan Soder, Godfrey, Beth Stelling, Nate Bargatze, Joe List, and Mark Normand at venues across the country. He has also made appearances on WNYC’s “2 Dope Queens,”  the Nerdists’s “Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction,” “Gotham Comedy Live” on AXS TV, “Laughs” on Fox Network, “The Alyona Show” on Russia Today, and “The Stream” on Al Jazeera. Born and raised in Washington, DC, Ryan now lives in New York City where he regularly performs standup, sketch, and improv comedy.

Show: Tinder Live with Lane Moore

Venue: Littlefield
Location:
622 Degraw Street Brooklyn

Time: 8pm
Description of Show and Lineup:

Tinder Live has been named one of the best comedy shows in NYC for good reason. Produced and hosted by comedian Lane Moore (The Onion, HBO’s GIRLS, Brooklyn Magazine’s “50 Funniest People In Brooklyn,” former Cosmopolitan Magazine sex & relationships editor), Tinder Live is a totally improvised, anything-can-happen interactive comedy showstopper with helpful and oftentimes ridiculous Tinder tips, tricks, real-time swiping, and messaging (and sometimes even real-time phone calls with Tinder matches)! You’ll relate to Moore’s live-swiping and laugh at her reactions and find inspiration in her ridiculous, random emoji-filled messages (and sometimes even phone calls!) to would-be suitors. It’s also a great show to attend with a date, Tinder or otherwise. If you’ve ever been on an online dating site (or a bad date in general), you need to see this show.

This month has host Lane Moore (The Onion, Cosmopolitan’s former Sex & Relationships editor, HBO’s GIRLS) joined by a guest panel of Ariel Dumas (writer for Late Night With Stephen Colbert, Clickhole) and Sady Doyle (author, Trainwreck: The Women We Love to Hate, Mock, and Fear… and Why, writer for Rookie) for a night of unstoppably funny, totally improvised, anything can happen, Tinder-themed hilarity.
